Syntur LabsSyntur’s bioengineering research branch.

Ambition requires evidence.

We aim to pursue ambitious scientific questions without overstating what has been demonstrated.

Mission

Bioengineering at the intersection of sensing, materials, diagnostics, and computation.

Syntur Labs explores bioengineering and biotechnology where sensing, materials, diagnostics, and computation meet. We study how engineered systems might measure, interpret, and interact with living systems.

We pursue these questions over the long horizons that biology requires, and we describe our work only as far as the evidence allows.

Research philosophy

How we hold ourselves to evidence.

  1. Evidence first

A claim is only as strong as the evidence we can show for it.

  2. Careful validation

Results are tested against independent evidence before we describe them as findings.

  3. Long horizons

Biology moves on its own timescales. We plan for research that takes years, not quarters.

  4. Explicit maturity

Every piece of work is labeled Direction, Hypothesis, Experiment, or Validated finding.

  5. Intellectual honesty

We report what did not work, and we say plainly what we do not yet know.

  6. Concepts are not results

An idea, an illustration, or a plan is never presented as something demonstrated.

  1. Direction A question we consider worth pursuing. No experimental work is implied.
  2. Hypothesis A specific, testable proposition, stated with how it could be shown wrong.
  3. Experiment Designed work underway to test a hypothesis. No result is implied.
  4. Validated finding A result supported by evidence we are prepared to show. No Syntur Labs work carries this label today.

All current Syntur Labs work is at the Direction stage.
